Thoughts from a #GirlDad
I used to think that death was the only reason things end. But in reality, like the perpetual motion of the globe, life is full of seasons of mortality.
Some of these seasons of our life are obvious much like the elation that comes with Spring.
The season of late night board games. The season of weddings. The season you become a #GirlDad.
But what is not obvious is there are many reasons for the closing of the season.
Dr. Seuss famously wrote "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened".

Respectfully - I disagree.
It's not only OK to cry that its over -- Perhaps it's needed.
Cry when they move to South Korea. Cry when they can’t remember your name.
But here is the problem, the seasons of our life don't end on a pre-determined revolution of the earth.
They are more of an evolution than they are a termination. Closer to the subtlety of incremental daylight as winter turns to spring.
Maybe a friend moves across town and weekly dinners become annual dinners. Maybe your DMs are void of funny memes. Maybe poker night dwindles from 8 people to 5.
We might not be able to regulate the beginning or the end, but here is the good news we can control the direction. That's why it's important to find our rudder, choose our reason and change course when needed. Once found we run towards our north star. Because the reason is where control lies. And being intentional is what brings joy in the journey.
As we head into the heart of winter, take a moment to reflect on your reason — without taking the time to reflect we will drift aimlessly. And it takes intention to stop the inertia of life.
Using the clarity provided through reflection, adjust your rudder as needed.
Perhaps it’s as simple as finally publishing that blog post. Perhaps it’s as complicated as starting a new business. Perhaps it’s as drastic as a new dawn in a foreign time zone.
Regardless we must get past the malaise created by fear and replace it with the fire to find freedom in our ever revolving seasons.
